Thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers, just got word that bloodwork is fine and no need for screening for at least 9 months. So NO MORE CHEMO!! We received our two vaccines and are ready to get outdoors. We are expecting our second grandchild this May so actually something good did come out of 2020! Stay well and enjoy the sunshine and warm weather coming our way.

Please read message below from Kurt and Amie Hackimer, Buddy’s son and daughter regarding 2019 ALS Walk.
    Thanks, Garry

This September marks five years since we lost our father, Bud Hackimer to ALS. Over the last five years, the Ice Bucket Challenge funded the discovery of five new ALS genes, drove innovative technology for ALS patients, and increased the care that Chapters can provide. We continue to fight for a cure for ALS in our dad’s memory.

We invite you to come together with us to celebrate his life at the Pittsburgh Walk and raise funds for a cure. Our dad fought ALS with the hopes that his battle would someday save someone else’s life. Help make that dream come true by donating to Team Nutty Buddies this year.

Is anyone planning a golf outing for the upcoming September 2019 get together?

I’m not a likely golfer (I stink) but I’d like to get a cart and drive around and say hello.

If anyone is organizing anything, let me know. I’m coming in a few days early this time, on the 18th in the evening, hoping there is a golf event.

    Let me know.

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 21, 2019 Save the date! The Class of 1968 will once again gather for conversation, camaraderie and consumables. Join in at the Old Fire House in North Park. More details to follow.

  5. Tom Holzman says:

Thanks for setting up the new chat, Joe, and for all the great work on the site. Sorry I was not able to make it to the Reunion. I’ve lived in the Atlanta area since finishing grad school at Pitt in 1977. I retired from my most recent employer on Jan. 1, so now I should be able to get to the Burgh again. Haven’t been there since my mother’s burial there 6 years ago. Hoping to get up there for a Pirates game this summer. All the best to all of you for the new year!

    1968 NC Classmates,
I participated in the Walk to Defeat ALS the week after our reunion to remember Buddy Hackimer. His daughter Amie is the ALS Event Manager for the walk. I told her how we honored our deceased classmates by ringing The Bell and she was very happy to hear we remember her Dad. Amie asked me to post this link if any of you would like to contribute to the Association to Defeat ALS in memory of Bud. This is her fund raising team “The Nutty Buddies”. http://webwpawv.alsa.org/goto/nuttybuddies
Thanks in advance for your consideration and hope all is well,
    GS

I see it was announced a few minutes ago that Cardinal Wuerl’s name will be removed from the school name. It will once again be North Catholic High School. What are your thoughts on this?

    • Greg Feigel says:

I plan on renewing my donations to the school. Many (including me) stopped giving when the name was changed.

Now, more than ever, the school needs our support.

  10. Gene Piekarski says:

My thanks goes out to everyone involved in the planning and execution of this memorable event. Too many things to mention but we know who you are. North will always be No. 1 in our hearts. What a great bunch of guys. “68”

  11. Raymond Walton says:

Thanks for the work organizing the reunion. North Catholic was a special place. It was great to see everyone. Forever True !

  12. Kirk Pelland says:

    Beautifully organized and executed …!
Stories flowed freely from all directions.
I would hate to say all the stories were exactly the way it happened… but the spirit of the event was definitely Forever True …!

Amazing to me…Memories of the times came back with every succeeding conversation.
What a great bunch of old guys to hang out with…!

I had never made the trip to a reunion … so My special thanks to Joe Fisher who encouraged me to go, put me up in a friends house and helped set up the golf tournament which seemed to be enjoyed by all.
I was a little disappointed in Reljac for posting : “Read the rules carefully because…Kirk obviously wants in your wallet!” … just because we set up a$5 closest to the pin game on two par 3’s!
    Really Joe…?!

So as it turned out … Fisher won the 1st one and I won the 2nd one..!!
    Pure Coincidence…!!

    And…
Joe and I decided we’re going to donate the $60 to Tim Hanna’s Flag Commemoration Plaque as soon as it is set up…!
Not feeling guilty … feeling Forever True!

God Bless and Keep … the Class of ’68.
    Kirk Pelland

    • Joe Reljac says:

Well Kirk, in my defense you didn’t mention that I removed the portion of your outing flyer stating “No golfing experience or clubs necessary to participate, just bring cold cash”. Good of you and Joe to make the initial donation to the Flag Fund.

  13. Frank Budzik says:

Kudos to the reunion committee for the great job! The reunion was very well done and very much appreciated. What a great opportunity to remember our days at NC, reflect on our lives since, and renew old friendships. Truly one of the most memorable events I’ve ever attended. Thanks again to the Committee and all those who attended! You were and are one of the best times of my life! Continued success to you all!

  14. Jim Gessler says:

Well done to everyone who made this event a huge success. Special thanks to the guys of the reunion committee for their thoughtful and tireless efforts in getting so many of us together in friendship and remembrance. We partied like it was 1968.

  15. Joe Reljac says:

Fifty years evaporated in an instant and, if only for a moment, it was back to the time of boundless expectations and the promise of all things possible. It is gratifying to see the renewed friendships and happy recognition when names were attached to faces and vice versa. Kudos to those who traveled long distances to join together. (Mine was a 5 ½ mile trek.)
We all have something special that exists less and less every day. The knowledge that although there were groups or “clicks” within the school, as a class we did and perhaps still do stand united in our beliefs and values. These were instilled in us at North Catholic to be used throughout our careers and lives. Congratulations on doing your part to improve our world.
Best wishes to all of you and those in your life.

  16. Mike McElhone says:

Great night. Thanks to those who put it together!
It was a reminder to me of what a big part of my life was formed and directed by my days at North! Thank goodness for those Brothers pushing me to do things I didn’t want to do!

  17. GARRY SCHRAEDER says:

Very Happy to see many made the effort to attend.
Even Happier to see the Smiling Faces while enjoying each others company.
    Much Positive Energy.
Most memorial moments…Ringing of The Bell during the reading of the names of our deceased classmates. And the Pipping of Amazing Grace.
    Until next time.
    Safe Travels, GS

  18. Frank Marsico says:

ditto what Tom & Bill say above. Thanks to all for making happen!
We are a great group of boys who are now men from a great place at a great time of our lives.
God Bless those not with us any longer, they are missed.
And thanks to all for signing my Track shirt! Pics soon of it
    Forever True

  19. Jim Henderson says:

Great re-union…many thanks to everyone on the planning committee for a great job!

It was so good to see everyone and catch up on all the old stories…and so many lives well lived. I found out, much to my surprise and chagrin that I’m a legend…in Bill Aguglia’s mind. Thanks for all the great memories, Bill….but you give me way too much credit!

But mostly I’m proud and honored to have in been in the company of… and to have my own life forever associated with so many great men of North Catholic. Forever True!

  20. Tom Blumer says:

Thanks to the Reunion Committee for organizing our 50th reunion. From golf on Friday to the mass for deceased friends, the tour of the new high school, dinner in the cafeteria and talking with old comrades, to the final picnic to continue the discussions. All great. These things take time and effort and I really appreciate the work everyone did.
