Class of ’68 2019 Picnic

The Class of 1968 re-convened for an afternoon of friendship and food on Saturday September 21st at the Old Fire House in North Park. The first of what will be an annual event commemorating our 50thyear reunion brought good weather and comradeship. The group of approximately 30 lads had the opportunity to catch up the latest family news while comparing notes on the many critical subjects we need to deal with every day.

Fortunately, topics like the most recent surgeries and which medications seem most effective took a back seat to how the Steelers will do in their slow start to Super Bowl LIV in Miami and the Pirates ….well, you know. There was probably also talk about mundane subjects like the upcoming November elections. We just didn’t care.

New business centered around the creation and installation of a memorial plaque at the new North Catholic High School. This discussion was conceived during the festivities last year. The reunion committee ran it up the flagpole and saluted it – so to speak. Be sure to check out the related information on the News page of the website. ( nc1968.com )

We were glad to see that some of the guys who were not able to attend the 50th reunion did make it to the picnic. That is terrific because we hope future gatherings will bring more and more of our classmates together. After all, we share the history of having lived though the angst of spending our teenage years with a great deal of civil unrest in the country and Brother Ray in our school.

The day ended with a campfire at John Laquatra’s house which is just a short walk from the picnic site. We are pleased to report there were very few injuries and John’s house remains standing. Sort of.

As noted, this was an annual picnic. Pass the word to all our classmates that there will be a repeat next year. We will be staying in touch by email. Email addresses whether new or changes can be reported to Paul Lamping, keeper of the master list. ( paullamping@gmail.com )

And speaking of Paul, a motion was passed at a recent committee meeting stating that Paul would not be in charge of ordering the chicken wings for the next picnic. You had to be there but let’s just say numerous chickens made the ultimate sacrifice needlessly.
